How to Naturally Support Your Immune System This Season

sick woman sneezing into a tissueFrom COVID concerns still looming and flu bugs flourishing, it’s especially critical in the winter months to keep your immune system firing on all cylinders. In addition to eating right, getting sufficient sleep, and exercising, we also recommend supplementation and chiropractic care.

Our In-House Immune Boosting Pack

We have several supplements that we use for both preventive and sick care. If someone is trying to prevent illness, Dr. Good recommends the following, which are contained in our immune boosting pack:

  • Vitamin D3: Referred to as the “sunshine” vitamin, D3 has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and boosts immune cells.
  • Selenium: This mineral is essential for optimal immune response.
  • Quercetin: This nutrient, commonly found in apples, grapes, berries, broccoli, onions, red wine, etc., supports immunity and has anti-inflammatory effects.
  • N-acetyl cysteine (NAC): This is a cellular accelerator that helps increase energy and combat stress.
  • Curcumin: Considered the most active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin is a powerhouse in fighting inflammation. Curcumin also modulates the immune system and boosts cognitive function.
  • Melatonin: Commonly taken to promote good sleep, melatonin also helps enhance T cell response in the body.

The above supplements are safe for all ages, but for children, we offer different doses. At the practice, we have chewable options that are better suited for kids.

Eat Whole Foods

In addition to supplementing, it’s important to eat the rainbow to stay healthy. Processed foods high in sugar, salt and multisyllabic ingredients do your body a disservice. However, choosing whole foods-ones that are as close to nature as possible-can help keep your body in a better position to stave off sickness. That’s why we recommend shopping the perimeter of the grocery store, loading your cart with fresh fruits and vegetables in particular.

Nutrition and chiropractic work hand in glove, which is why we offer both at Good Health Chiropractic & Acupuncture.

The Power of the Adjustment

While many people think of chiropractic as a treatment for back and neck pain, they often don’t realize that it can boost the immune system. As your nervous system controls every system in your body, including your immune system, getting adjusted can help keep your body well fortified to fend off sicknesses, such as the cold, flu and other viruses.
